Highly recommend this automotive shop. Needed to get some regular maintenance done on my vehicle, and had to wait at the shop. Work was done in a timely manner. Also, has a nice waiting area. The staff up front were super nice and friendly. I will be back!

Quick and fair service at VAS every time. They even write a handwritten card telling me how they appreciate my business. Great place if you’re trying to find a trustworthy mechanic near short pump / the west end.

Poor management and business acumen. I was scheduled for a vehicle state inspection at 1pm on a slow day at this location. When asked over the phone if I'll be dropping off or waiting, I told them I will wait. I arrived 10 minutes early to my appointment, and I was told that the inspector just left for lunch. I ended up waiting 80 minutes for what was a 10 minute inspection job on a 1 year old vehicle. Why schedule your customers to come in and make them wait while your workers are on break? This is an outstanding example of poor customer service. I do not recommend this business.

Dear Mr. Chu, Thank you for bringing in your Jeep to us for the annual inspection. I understand your concerns and I would like to apologize for the confusion and delay. Please understand that any vehicle Virginia state safety inspection, even on newer vehicles, has to abide by the rules, regulations and inspection details that are required by law, which are managed by the Virginia State Police. Thanks again for your business and I hope you had a nice flight. Virginia Automotive Service Management

Virginia Automotive Services is at best lazy and/or incompetent and at worse completely dishonest. I took my vehicle for VA State Inspection. They told me my vehicle failed and wasn’t really safe to drive because of bad ball joints. They would of course fix this for $1400. Normally I might have just taken their word for it but I had just gotten my vehicle back from a garage where I had a bumper to bumper inspection done and had all mechanical issues replaced or repaired (would have had them inspect it but they are in NC). I had them put the fail sticker on and left. I contacted the mechanic who had done the bumper to bumper and repairs and he assured me that there was nothing wrong with the ball joints and suggested I take my vehicle to different inspection station. When I did it passed with no problem and no mention of the ball joints having any issues. I would avoid this place and go elsewhere to find a competent/honest shop.

Dear Mr. Wells, Thank you so much for considering Virginia Automotive Service. I checked with our Technicians and our General Manager concerning your state inspection. We always conduct our safety inspections by Virginia State rules and regulations in order to keep our customers safe and their vehicles in compliance with the Virginia State Police. I hope that you understand that we do not cut corners when it comes to the safety and well being of are valued customers. Thank you. Virginia Automotive Service

I've been a regular at this shop since moving to the area because I needed someone specific to work on my foreign make car. I was used to paying expensive prices to fix said car and that continued at this shop, but I have since replaced it with a much older and much more affordable ride. I spent a lot of money at VA Automotive right after purchasing said new ride to make sure it was in good condition after transferring ownership (3k+ if I recall) and had them inspect it. Somehow between last year when I did those updates and it passed inspection and this year when I asked for a new inspection, there were new problems wrong and they quoted over 1600 to fix them. Since I wasn't about to pay up for a car that I've barely put new miles on, I took the rejection and got a second opinion elsewhere. This competitor quoted me under 500 to fix only some of the same issues (the others were non-issues) and get my car back on the road again. Their competitor also was nice enough to warn me of the dry rot in my tires (which I knew of already) because they were just worried for my safety, but Virginia Automotive Service didn't bring it up at all. After reading other reviews here, I can't help but to wonder if I got such a high quote just because I'm a young woman and always handled correspondence with this shop myself. Either way, this quote was way overpriced and it is disappointing to know I've been taken advantage of. I was going to bring my fiancé to start getting service here too before this happened, but he canceled his appointment immediately after hearing my quote. What a joke this place is. Edit since I can't reply to the owner: This car went through no wear over the course of the year because, like I mentioned, I barely put any new miles on it and literally drove it nowhere. It rarely leaves my driveway. Others- steer clear.

Dear Alisa, I'm sure you understand that vehicles undergo a lot of wear and tear in a year's time and we are very thorough in the inspections of our customer's cars. We follow the Virginia State rules and regulations and are managed by the Virginia State Police. I also want you to know that we do not discriminate against anyone for anything. I hope that your car is safe. Thank you for your concerns. Virginia Automotive Service
